I KNOW THIS BECAUSE I DID EXACTLY THIS TO MY OWN CAREER.

For most of my career, I almost never said no to more work.

Partly because I wanted to grow. I genuinely liked learning new things.

I started in one function. Then picked up another. Then another.

I managed teams, took on work that wasn't originally mine, stepped into problems that needed an owner, and kept expanding what I could do.

For a long time, I was proud of that. I knew how much value I brought to a company.

Then, after about 15 years of working, I started thinking about my next path seriously.

And I got frustrated... and somewhat mad.

Because suddenly, all that experience looked strangely inconvenient outside of it.
